About

David Maida David Maida is originally from Houston, Texas in the USA. He has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from Stephen F. Austin State University in East Texas. During school, David worked in the newsroom at the local television station and spent a summer in London, England working for ABC News.

The news bug had bitten and, the day after college graduation, David went to work for CNN in Atlanta, Georgia. He spent the next 10 years working his way up through the company and learning from the best in the business. As a CNN Producer, David worked on some of the biggest news stories of the day including the Oklahoma City Bombing, the first World Trade Center Bombing, the Atlanta Olympic Park Bombing, the fall of Communism, the first Gulf War and the Exxon Valdez disaster.

In 1999, David wanted a change of pace and accepted a job offer from Television New Zealand to be the Senior News Producer in the Wellington political bureau. He worked for TVNZ for five years before deciding to be a freelance writer.

David says he is glad he made the change.

"I enjoy freelance writing because the scope of the work is just limitless. It allows you to explore many different things in great detail which you just wouldn't be able to do with many other jobs. I can be writing about the design of the arc chamber inside of a light bulb one minute and the labour shortage in the employment market the next. I guess I'm just naturally inquisitive."

David now writes regularly for The New Zealand Herald and a variety of magazines and newsletters. For a look at David's online writing samples visit the portfolio page.
